Favourite Cartoons No.2

http://www.thefarside.com/

Another Cartoonist who can wrap me up in stitches, would be Gary Larson and "The Far Side" - I must say though you generally need to be in the right type of mood for his particular sense of humour, but when it gets your funny muscle going it’s hard to stop.

Favourite Songwriters No.1

I’ve been listening to music while working, then suddenly one of my favourite "Counting Crows" songs came on, "Goodnight Elizabeth" - The main reason I love this band so much is that Adam Duritz the singer songwriter, is definitely one of the poets of his generation. He conveys so much emotion so beautifully in so few words. So I thought I’d Start Listing some of my top Lyricists, here’s the first.

"I was wasted in the afternoon, waiting on a train, I woke up in pieces and Elizabeth had disappeared again, well I wish you were inside of me I hope that you’re okay, I hope you’re resting quietly I just wanted to say - Good Goodnight Elizabeth goodnight Elizabeth goodnight...
.....If you wrap yourself in daffodils - well I’ll wrap myself in pain and ooh if you’re the queen of California then baby I am the king of the Rain"

Favourite Cartoons no.1

With out a Doubt - probably my favourite Cartoon and Cartoonist would have to be Bill Wattersons “Calvin & Hobbes”.
His Drawing style his so simple and expressive, you get the joke before you even read the text. I often find myself just giggling away at the expression on Calvin’s face. If you’ve never read any “Calvin and Hobbes” What planet have you been on and how long have they all been asleep, surely you’ve at least heard of the greatness of Spaceman spiff...

Proud to be...

I’m about to start work again on our publication, and so have been looking back at what I’ve been doing here (the company I work for) for the past almost year. Though not a great deal as I look back I realized I’ve managed to brand our corporate identity with our countries flag, which is something I’m really pleased with I love this country and it’s people and am proud to be a member of it.
Yeah there’s allot of corruption in our government and there’s crime, but there’s sun and smiles and people who greet you with laughter on our streets. There’s a Nation Proud and pationate about sport, our environment who we are and what we stand for, a people who know their past and dream there future.
People who can laugh with each other, who can make jokes of each races foibles without it having any mean intentions. A country with a dozen different cultures, that intermingle and leaves a uniquely South African taste on your palate.

The Worrier

Often you just start doodling without ever having a clue or a plan where it’s going, you just let the line guide, you and what you feel lies beneath, I guess that’s what doodles really are.

Terminator Tuesdays

Somedays Tuesday's feel a bit like Mondays, sometimes with more of a bite. Especially if you've had a busy weekend. It walks up to you slaps you in the face and says "I'll be back", I must say though, that I've revived a bit since this morning and there's the positive side that the weekend is only four days away. Whooo hooo!

Sad Elly

It's amazing how much eye's affect the charecter of a cartoon, or even a portrait or figure drawing. Here I've left the elephants eyes blank, which gives him a kind of sad reflective lost look.

Step by step Cartoon

I thought I'd let you all in on the basic process I go through when Drawing a cartoon. Firstly I get the basic image, that I have in my head down lightly in pencil, Once I have what basically down, I sketch it properly overlaying the lines I like from the light sketch and adding on where I think Fit.
The next step is much the same, but you’re converting the image into Ink - a lot of the excess lines are erased as well, giving you a cleaner line drawing. The last stage is adding the colour, it depends weather I’m doing this by hand or on the computer and what program I’m doing in it as to how I do it.

Israel Kamakawiwo Ole

Have you ever heard a song that

just caught a hold of you the first time you ever heard it, but you had no Idea of who it was that sung it. Well I finally tracked down the artist of one of those songs, his name is Israel Kamakawiwo Ole, though unfortunately he died a few years ago. The song "Somewhere over the Rainbow" has been played during the closing credits of a couple movies, I think the first time I saw it was at the end of finding forester, which is a really great movie my the way aswell.

take a listen to by using the link above, you won't be sorry.

If Friday were an object...

...I’d have to go for a Bottle opener, for all of the obvoius reasons and hidden meanings, it’s opening up the weekend, and ultiumately that drink that’s gonna make you wake up dreading monday.
